What Do You Think?

I would like to know from students: what is your favorite thing that we do in the library? What are some things you would like to do?

From parents: What was your favorite part of going to the library when you were young? Do you know how much has changed about coming to the library today? What would you like to see your students doing more of in the library?

  1. When I was a child, I loved to go the library and check out books.I remember I read the whole Sue Barton series. There was a book called Pink Maple House that was so good until I found that the last few pages were torn out - I was so upset.

I always looked forward to going to the library, because our librarian would read a chapter or two from a book and then put it on the shelf and tell us to check it out and read it. I remember The Wheel on the Schoolhouse, Charlotte's Web and Pippi Longstocking were introduced this way.

I enjoyed the acitivities that she would have for us to do using the card catalogue, too. She would have a type of scavenger hunt. It was fun!

  2. One of my favorite times was when we had quiet reading but we could sit anywhere we wanted. I always chose to lay in the very back by the shelves where no one can find me!!

  3. My favorite memory of the library is getting hooked on the Janette Oke series. We were a small rural school, so my librarian would only get a couple of books at a time. It was so exciting for her to tell me when a new book in the series arrived. She instilled within me the love for reading, and I am still and avid reader today.

  8. Dear Mrs.Castleberry,
I love how we get to read with stuffed animals. It's when I at least get the most peace and quiet, but I would realy love it if we could start doing more activites with you like those almanac and dictionary stuff about our names and who we are. When I was young I loved to go in the kids' sections and get books that I loved to read. Some-times I would like to help my mom find her a good book to read too. I love your new blog. Its awsomwe and cool. You are the coolest libarian that I've ever had.
    Sincerely,

I am so glad you liked the project where we completed entries from different reference books about ourselves. That was fun! We certainly will continue to learn more about dictionaries and almanacs, etc. I can help you find a book your mom would like, just let me know what kinds of things she is interested in. See you soon!

  10. Dear Mrs. Castleberry,
I like the SHAMU cam. It is fun to watch the baby otters lay by the mama. It was so cute, and the games are cool. I wish it was Fun Friday, so I could play on the games because I would hurry and eat my food or throw my food away without eating. Oh, the people who were feeding the penguins they were running around in their little room, and the baby whale came out of the water. The sea turtle was so cute I wish I could hold him.I would keep him for my whole life, and the sharks were pretty scary. I like the game in library, and I like the starfall. It is so cool, and thank you for this blog. I would like to get on here again.I hope a lot of kids read your blog.

    Sincerely,
    Jaquarius

  15. A blog is a great way to share information and sneak a writing lesson in as well.

It always made me feel important as a student when my teacher would write comments on my paper. A blog can help you start a dialog with your students. It makes them feel important and valued when their comments and yours to them are published. Keep blogging!

And by the way, I really like your links. I've added some of them to my web page. Thanks!

Thank you for the encouragement. One of the reasons I really wanted a blog is because I don't get to see the students very often IN the library, so this does allow me to talk with them more often :). It works great for so many reasons! Thank you for visiting.

  22. During high school and college, I used libraries to study and do research, so I didn't enjoy them as much as I do now. :) I LOVE my local public library, especially when I found out that people could interlibrary loan books, put books on hold, etc. that are on your To-Read list.

I have to say, I am a bibliophile (book lover), and during our summer vacation from school, I will read nearly a book a day, so I need my local library to keep me stocked up. I enjoy many genres, including autobiography/memoir, classic fiction, personal growth and development, and popular fiction.

I hope all of you kids keep reading when you grow up. It's a wonderful thing.
